Day 18 ~ How to Create “Book Spine” Poetry!!! for “30 poems in 30 days” #NationalPoetryMonth

Today is the day!!! If you have been following along you know that I mentioned we would be doing this super fun poetry form today, Tuesday! So, this is an intriguing way to “create” or, actually, “find” a poem by arranging and rearranging a stack of books horizontally that show the title on the book spine into something clever that might be a “poem.” Just like creating any poetry, you get to decide if it will happy or sad, serious of funny or whatever.

Simply start perusing the titles on your bookshelves and pull out some that have possibilities and start stacking them up to see what you might discover. <> If I can pull together some new “Book Spine Poems” then I can come back and change them out, but for now, let’s just go with what works. For the last two years this has been so fun and once the photos of these “poems” (books stacked on each other, creating a poem with the titles) started to hit FB – SOOOO many people jumped on board and pics of book spine poetry showed up all over that day ~ so … here we go!!!

Here’s a very quick and rather silly one I pulled together out of some kids’ books:

If you take photos of your “Book Spine Poems” (and I think you should), try to line up the titles when you stack them up – we are only interested in the titles for this poetry form. Feel free to share the titles in the comments section, but even more fun than that is to snap a photo of your “found” poetry creation and post it on social media ~ be sure to link back to this blog post so others can join in. So fun!!!

So, here are NINE "Book Spine” Poem examples. Doesn’t really matter how many you find. But I hope you are least came up with one. Perhaps YOU are far more clever than I and your poetry is quite profound. My Book Spine Poetry is not particularly profound; well, maybe one or two give “food for thought.” But it was pretty fun putting them together.

Now, since you won’t be able to include a photo in the comments section, here is what I suggest – just write up the poem by writing a title per line in the order that you stacked them up. If you are willing and able to share a few (or a BUNCH) on FB, then do that too and say so in your comments so those who are your FB friends can find it. I also suggest that if you have your own blog, you can post them there and then link back to this post in case your readers/followers have any questions. Cheers!!
